Asili Coffee celebrated a momentous occasion on 17 January with the official launch of its Agroforestry Incubator initiative in the picturesque Akuapem region of Ghana. This groundbreaking project aims to revolutionise the local coffee industry, making it more accessible to young farmers and driving large-scale coffee production.
At the heart of this initiative is Asili’s commitment to de-risk coffee cultivation, lowering barriers to entry for aspiring farmers while promoting sustainable growth in the region’s coffee sector. The Agroforestry Incubator offers farmers a comprehensive support system, which includes access to free coffee seedlings, extensive training and capacity building, and a guaranteed market for their coffee yields.
The launch event was nothing short of remarkable, drawing prominent figures from various sectors, including former President John Agyekum Kufuor. His presence underscored the significance of this initiative and its potential to transform the lives of local farmers.
Sammy Awuku, CEO of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), and Dennis Aboagye, a Presidential Staffer focused on Local Government at Jubilee House, lent their support to the event. Representatives from the Ghana Cocoa Board, the ITC Alliances for Action, the GIZ Agribusiness Program, and the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) were also in attendance, highlighting the collaborative efforts that will drive the success of the incubator program.
One of the highlights of the day was the grand opening of Asili’s state-of-the-art facility in Akropong. This facility houses a coffee seedling garden, a coffee processing plant, and an information hub dedicated to the Agroforestry Incubator. Former President Kufuor had the honor of cutting the ribbon, signifying the facility’s official inauguration and the launch of this innovative incubator program.
As the ribbon fell, it marked the beginning of a new era for coffee cultivation in the Akuapem region. Asili Coffee’s Agroforestry Incubator is not only set to boost coffee production but also to empower the youth, foster sustainable farming practices, and contribute to the region’s economic development.
